"In Store Only" -- you're supposed to label these deals as such for those of us not near a MC.

Edit: thanks for fixing it.

10 in stock at the OC Tustin store.

One review, good info I think.

This board is from 2007, so it is 7 years old
This board only supports 1GB DDR2
It cannot run vista, or windows 7. It will run windows XP very well.
It has a SIS chipset for video, so it will have graphical errors in linux as sis video is poorly supported.
Option: use PCI video card
This is great for DOS system, or old windows system (95,98,2K)
It has good capacitors, so it will last a long time.
It will need a fan.

Any opinions on using a system like this running XP32 or W98 for old games etc. vs compatibility mode or emulation on a newer system?

Will a cheap Celeron 133 and fan be easy to find, cheap?

Could this be one of those boards where they have soldered on the cpu?

No-one brave enough to buy one? If a darned case + PSU wasn't so expensive, I might go to the B&M and try to dicker with them to clear them out. I've got IDE HDDs and cables.

Edit: Here's a budget build idea with this board.

Board in OP: $25

PCI dual-port SATA 1.5 Silicon Image chipset controller (Supported by Linux): $14.99 FS @ Newegg

OR $17.99 + tax @ MC

HDD: 40GB refurb: $7.99

Maybe it would work as a Linux Slackware (no GUI) NAS with the addition of a decent SATA PCI card?

Honestly though... unless you have an old case and old PSU (20-pin ATX+4-pin CPU connector) sitting around, along with an old IDE drive, I can't see building this up with any new components. When you are done building it, you are left with a system that might be able to browse the web (with XP and it's lovely security issues) and get e-mail.

When all is said and done, you'd probably be better served for most applications looking into a cheap tablet.

I keep coming back to a slackware server as the only really useful application. You still end up being pretty limited, but it might fit the bill for many people.

There have been deals recently on more modern mini ITX mobos. Newegg had the ECS NM70-TI for I think $40 after MIR.

Personally I wouldn't sink money into a barebones this old.

this, I'd be more inclined to take a $20 and just go flush it down the toilet
