20-25k to spend on a car

My friend's dad wants to buy him a new car the price range being 20-25k He currently drives an old Lincoln that is falling apart.. especially all the electronics and interior. He is a pretty tall guy, 6'4" about so small sports cars are out of the question. Most of his driving is freeway or quick trips from point A to point B around town, so driving stick isn't out of the question. Oh and he is about 25 if that makes any difference. Mostly I'm just curious as to what is available for that kind of money.

Edit: Used cars are okay as well, looking at used from 2000 till current.

I made away with mine basically for invoice, and it was an 07 too. Got $1000 off for owning an 04 Nissan Quest, but still. It's really easy to find 3.5SEs with a small amount of options on them, mine only had fog lights and a spoiler. Fun car too, probably be more fun with the 6MT though (I got the CVT).
 
You could squeeze into a new Altima SE at that price. Quite roomy for bigger drivers, plenty of get up and go while still providing decent gas milage.

Bleh. Slow, boring looking, and incredibly expensive when it comes to maintenance.

If I wanted to go that route, I'd look at a Lexus GS.
 
These are the kinds of threads I always question - how many of these "parents" listen to their child's friend when spending 25k? I see them all the time on other car forums and have to wonder if any actually end up using the advice. Sometimes it's posted for attention, sometimes just to make themselves feel like they're needed in the decision, sometimes to feel like they're car smart themselves, and in the extreme rare occasion - they will know which car it is before it is bought.

true. it's not like OP or his friend will have a say on which car his dad's getting him.

why not? if you are going to buy your kid a car, you don't want to get him something he hates.

While logical, that usually doesn't happen. Who's spending the money?

Yes ATOT, I realize there will *ALWAYS* be an exception, but forget those rare occurances, my point is that quite a large portion of people won't really have a choice. If they're buying a new car, sure, maybe in color and difference between EX and LX will be debated or something, but I don't see it going much further usually.

If I were your friend I'd get a Prius or buy a corolla/civic/XA/XB and get a motorcycle....Starter Ninja's get crazy MPG along with Honda Rebel's etc.... If he doesn't give two craps about gas prices or the environment FRJ.....
 
my *biased* opinion is a Scion tC for 20-25K u could easily throw a turbo on there plus lowering springs and basically anything else u wanted for add ons MSRP on a stick is <17K$

the tC looks a lil small but im 6'3'' and i dont even put the seat all the way back
if ur concerned about speed at least since a stock tC will rape a stock civic SI
