Arent we a bit pissy? This screen in my opinion is terrible. I have a Samsung 213T now and its considerably better. You have no clue what you're talking about when you say its not as sharp. The 213T is sharper and the screen door effect which drives me nuts is not there.
Are you one some substance that do no know yet?
I have seen the samsung - It's a big screen but for the $1200 that it costs it is not that great - contrast is nowhere near the dell and the refresh rate is slow too - unless you are desperate for an additoinal inch of real estate - this is not the difference between "uhh" and "ahh"

There are some 2001FP's which have really bad screen door effect. It seems to show up in very few panels (percentage wise), but they're out there. Since Dell pays return shipping, you may as well RMA it, because chances are, you'll get a normal one.

You know how if you look through a screen door, you don't get a clear picture because of the mesh. Now apply the idea in front of your CRT, and this is the effect they're talking about. LCD's have pixels, and if the pixels are too far apart, you can see the separation and it seems like you're looking through a screen door.
I just noticed that Dell is carring other LCD brands . . . and with the drop of their LCD monitor (Namely the 2001FP), would this be due to phasing out their own branded LCD?

That is hard to say, I have heard the theory that there are a few with very visible screen doors....and really it would be the most logical explanation because you have to be very close to the screen to see the screen door that is visable on a normal 2001FP.
Personally I have to be 13" or so before I can see it and even then its not easy.

All I can say is dual 20" ROX! They work well for gaming, and yes, there IS a screendoor effect, but its only bothersome from about a foot away or closer, and only really noticeable on certain backgrounds (pure white screen really shows), but you will get used to it. With the 16ms response, they are great for gaming and no ghosting or screendoor in any games I've tried. Now I just gotta get my buddy's 6800 ultra (for $350 might I add ) for dual dvi, 16x12 yumminess for HL2. Mmmmm....HL2.....
Buy it and enjoy!

I don't know what some people are talking about when they say this monitor has a screen door effect -- i don't see anything of that sort. I bought this monitor a week or two ago, when there was that 70$ coupon. It was well worth the 609$ shipped, and I think i would've paid more for it. This is a beautiful, beautiful, monitor-- highly recommended!
Do a search in the hardware forum. Others have complained about the screen door effect. It doest seem to bother some people.
But I think someone above said something important, not all LCD's from the same brand\model are built equally. I and the others complaining about it might have a version where the effect is more pronounced.
I'm responsible for about 20 of these baby's, and usually sit within 2 feet of them for about 8 to 14 hours per day (I know - I need to get a life). Noone has complained about a "screen door" effect (although I did look it up on a website). These just plain ROCK at $600@

Below is a quick comparison to back up my comment about the 2001FP being a better monitor on paper. It is mostly based on aspect ratios. The 2001FP has more pixels / screen real estate -- so given the native resolutions, the 2001FP will do a boxed standard 16:10 AR better than the 2005FPW do a boxed standard 4:3.
