I think if you carefully consume all the vitamins and nutrients that you need, a 1000 calorie diet could be executed safely. I think it's usually recommended against not because it's dangerous, but because people don't stick to it since they're so hungry all the time.

My height/weight/age allows me ~3000 calories a day. I'm lucky if I even get 2000, let alone 10x that much :O

1800 is fine. Just needs to move more. 1000 is not good for anyone.

Bull. If you limit carb consumption and go into ketosis then you make up energy via fat burning. Look up ketogenic diets (e.g. Atkins.) Definitely not a healthy life-long diet, but helpful to shed a few pounds. Obviously if you go back to old habits then the weight will go back on.

To maintain a healthy weight sedentary people should consume about 2000 calories per day and no more than 100 grams of carbs.

Also, make muscle. Fat does nothing for you. For ever pound of muscle you will burn an additional 50-100 calories a day at your BMR.

20000 calories would mean starving to death.

The recommended daily intake is 2000-2500 kcal, so 2000000-2500000 calories.

Dunno why, but for some reason I'm annoyed that noone seems to know that its kilocalories, not calories.

/random rant

Those of you who say you eat fewer than 2k a day, I guess you never go out to eat. Most those entrees are 1500+ cal just by themselves. Get a soda and you are close to 2k. Appetizers will definitely put you over 2k for that one meal.

Wait what? Really? Every single diet site, food label etc... says calories.

Not really. I eat out every day. A Baconator or equivalent burger, with a low carb bread (4 carbs per slice), 32 oz Diet Soda, and side salad with ranch comes to under 1k. I'll eat some low carb protein bars (250 cals) or sometimes some eggs (2 x 70) and shrimp (100) and mixed veggies for dinner. I have lost 45lbs since October.

this is one of the most false statements in this thread. most people believe this because it is what you see when you look at the nutrition labels.

you can't compare how many calories are "healthy" for an adult who is 5'5" and one who is 6'5" because it will be totally different. you really can't even compare it for 2 people who are the same height because they can have totally different health standings.

Food that never makes you fat:

Not fried - natural - salted....

To burn fat in your body - fat is needed. Americans are fat not because they eat a lot, but because of food they eat - Steroids - "pumped" into meat to make more money out of meat they sell...

Why black people are more fat/overweight than others?
Chicken - the answer, they eat a lot of chicken. Do anyone know how do chicken "grow" today? before they reach supermarket shelves?

No one will tell you that - because many will loose money out of "FAT" bussiness...

Eggs have too much cholesterol? When I was 1-20 y.o., I used to eat sometimes 10 eggs/day - "sunnyside" or soft boiled...When I listen to all doctor's/media's bullshit about that...I do wonder, how am I alive today....just one thing - I did eat eggs from chicken, that weren't stuffed with chemicals back then...

Chemicals, combines with some naturals foods - makes people fat...and no activity - no sports...

McDonald's with Diet Coke? prolly biggest poison...
Mcdonalds has no bread and no meat...dunno, what are they made of...but McDonalds food haven't even been close to bread or meat...
All those pics of food and none of the kool aid you're drinking? Weird.

That is an average. This also depends on muscle mass, weight, age. I guess the average American is fat now, so maybe less. It is easy enough to calculate your basal metabolic rate which is what would burn if you did nothing all day... basically, what your body uses to keep you alive.

Or, people should just weigh themselves at least weekly and not veer off course.

People get hung up on this "we are all different so I can never tell what is good for ME" mentality. Get a starting point and adjust it. Stating 2000 calories per day is a good area for most people is honest. It may be more or less depending on factors, but most people in this country have an all or nothing mentality. "Well, since I don't really know my BMR and I am taller than average, I'll eat whatever I want..."

I only eat 1600 calories a day. Sometimes I eat 1800, it depends on how active I am.

I haven't ever, even once, counted the calories in the food I eat. You don't just magically wake up one day and you have gained 50lbs. Paying even the slightest bit of attention to your appearance will let you know if you need to eat less or exercise more.

More than like its because they were bred for many generations for serious physical labor, and they are not working in fields or lifting heavy stuff all day anymore.

I find it hard to believe that people that had a life expectancy of ~40-50 years had the ability to successfully breed humans. :hmm:

LOL what are you talking about? No different than animals. You buy some that have the attributes you want in an ideal workers and you make them breed. Then you either sell off the children or make them work.

I suppose if you think one generation is enough to produce guaranteed traits...
