He was probably in a car seat or booster seat and couldn't get free.

It doesn't matter. It's ultimately the mother's neglect; for not teaching her kids how to get out and for leaving them in there in the first place.

It's absolutely the mother's neglect for leaving them there. But once left, the kid didn't have a chance. Most car seats a kid ... even a 5 year old ... cannot get out of by themselves. In fact, I suspect that is by design ... you don't want a small child unbuckling themselves. It's tough enough getting them in a car seat sometimes, much less keeping them in there.

5 YO kids do know how to open doors that's why cars have child safety locks so they can't open them. I always have my locks on in the event my 3 YO decides to open the door.

Yea, my point is that he probably couldn't get out of the car seat, so the ability to unlock & open the door is irrelevant.

I say she did it on purpose.

ok why would she do it on purpose? Its not like she couldnt Call up foster care and tell them to come get the boys. heck they would be there the next day.

ok so what other reason did she have? hmm im at a lose for a reason! maybe you can let us know since you say shd did it on purpose.

Wonder what kind of punishment she can get?

You dont want your 5 year old unbuckeling while you're driving down the interestate. Newer carseats are designed to prevent this.

She didn't notice they were missing until 5 hours later? Something is not kosher here.

Nope, you're retarded ... se previous replies to this & the article:

"Smoot told investigators she discovered the boys in their car seats when she returned in the afternoon and pulled them from the vehicle."

What does that have to do with what I just said? The car seats impossible to unbuckle are the rear facing ones for infants to 3-4 years old.

You're suggesting that the kids were retarded because they didn't open the window or door. The article clearly states that they were in car seats, and we've been discussing how they couldn't get out of those car seats to open the window or door.

Well we don't know one way or another what kind or car seat it was, or even if it was simply a lap belt booster. Sorry, I still do not think these kids had full mental capability. ;)

Actually, rear-facing seats are only reccomended to 1 yr & 20 lbs, forward facing car seat after that up to 40 lbs, and a booster seat beyond that to some height limit.
A child might get out of a booster seat thenmselves. But not most carseats, rear or forward facing.

Agreed. You can't blame anyone but the parents here. Just plain out pure neglect.
