You dont want your 5 year old unbuckeling while you're driving down the interestate. Newer carseats are designed to prevent this.

Actually, rear-facing seats are only reccomended to 1 yr & 20 lbs, forward facing car seat after that up to 40 lbs, and a booster seat beyond that to some height limit.
