Hey guys,
Just a quick theoretical question. Can you link 2 modems together over a network to get download speeds over 11.2k/s on one computer?

This is possible, 3Com (www.3com.com) do a device which allows you to link two phone lines to it to give you 2 x 56k. Just check out the products section of the site, sorry but I did have a link to the page myself but its gone walkies! You should be able to find it one there. Hope this helps,

this thread looks awfully familiar. this is called "bonding." and in order for it to work you need 2 phone lines, 2 modems, and an isp that supports bonding (which most don't).
 
this is more of a question than an answer, but
with the whole bonding thing if you were to use one of those download manager programs that speed things up by doing simultaneous pulls from the same site would that help out... (altho the fact still remains that you would probably need to net accounts cuz most isps don't want you hanging on to two lines at once...)

Yes you can. I have this setup in my home network. In my main computer which uses Windows Xp (previoulsly Win2k) and I connect to a multilink compatible isp and just share the connection like you normally would. I get 10.5KB/s on all three computers on the network.
 
Yes if you look you can find Diamond Supras with shotgun technology. I was using this 2 years ago.. is 2 modems in one it will drop one connection when someone calls you so you can answer. was really nice then cable came to town
