Yeah I for got about that too:) Maybe 20% performance hit?

I wish someone would run a definitive comparison of 4x512 vs. 2x1024, especially under a Venice configuration. There are so many rumors flying around that it would be nice to see some hard facts on which would perform better, especially under gaming conditions.

i only have 3 dimm slots so I can't add 2 extra 512's
the cas latency of the geil brand i'm looking at is 3....if it were 2, what is the big difference? a millisecond? half second?

I wouldn't get anymore ram, because running 3-4 sticks will slow down your system more than having 2gb is going to help.

I'm running 4 sticks (2GB) and my system is actually a lot faster. I don't hit the page file even after several hours of heavy Photoshoping.

All that "2GB is overkill, will slow down your system" is total bs.

Your P4 rig doesn't have that 1T vs. 2T issue.

$345 for 2x1GB of 2.6V 2-3-2-5 is good?

If you really think CL2 is that important, you'd be better off spending $310 for Patriot 2.5V 2-3-2-5

I personally like the 1Gb sticks.

best value at the moment as far as I can tell is Corsair VS1GB400C3 1GB DDR400 PC3200 CAS2.5 $96.00 shipped.

That's a good deal (down to $94 now), but it's mislabeled. The model number has C3 right in it. It's not CL 2.5.
