Oh, puh-lease (notice the dramatic pause).

The US Gov't ain't gonna impose those kinds of fines on one of the biggest US companies- hell, the Bush admin been nice and easy on Billy boy, and big business in general. Microsoft will probably get the contract to supply Iraqi schools with XP loaded PCs with an "I Love Bush" photo as wallpaper.

That would give a nice boost to the US economy, if the government suddenly would have $2 trillion to spend :p

Eh - quite a bit - hell, you could probably give a few tomahawk missiles to each US household w/ that much money.

After reading it - this is what it says:

"The Federal Trade Commission last year demanded that Microsoft improve its Passport security or face stiff fines of up to $11,000 per violation. Redmond promised to work harder to protect consumer information and launched it's Trustworthy Computing initiative to put regulators' minds at ease"
""If we were to find that they didn't take reasonable safeguards to protect the information, that could be an order violation," Jessica Rich, assistant director for financial practices at the FTC, told the AP."

How on earth are they going to prove that they didn't take reasonable safeguards? This is just such garbage reading material.

This online newspaper ended w/ this:

The company is very upset about the problem, as evidenced by Microsoft product manager Adam Sohn's comment to CNET.
"Whatever," Sohn said.
Actually, he did not say that, but his real remarks were less than compelling.

 What kind of newspaper does this?!?!?

How to make your "news" site lose any credibility it may have had:

The company is very upset about the problem, as evidenced by Microsoft product manager Adam Sohn's comment to CNET.

"Whatever," Sohn said.

Actually, he did not say that, but his real remarks were less than compelling.

The register is second only to the inquirer for bullsh*t about computing stuff...

They've blown something fairly minor out of all proportion and pulled stupid figures out of the air to get a headline... Always with the MS bashing, eh?
