2 trillion barrels of untapped oil

I clicked an ad on a website and found this...

Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains
lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world ? more than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. Three companies have been chosen to lead the way. Test drilling has already begun...

if this is a repost...i did not find it anywhere....

how true is this?

Yes, but it's expensive to process. Canada also has a huge amount of Oil Sands, which are also expensive to process. BUT some analysts say that if the price of oil keeps going up, the costs associated with processing Oil Shale and Oil Sandes won't matter. With all of this said, even with these amounts it won't last forever and we need to keep looking into alternative fuels.

It is very true. The only problem (a MAJOR one) is finding an economical way to get oil from oil shales. Not an easy task to accomplish

Not to mention all of the greenhouse gases well put off burning the rest of the oil.

BTW, it'd be a hard political sell to convince the public to remove the rockies to get some oil.

don't worry , with oil over $100/barrel and as the value of the dollar drops, getting oil from those types of domestic sources will become very attractive

There are other problems with it too. It takes so much water to extract the oil from the shale it would deplete the aquifer. As technology advances, more and more of that oil will become available without completely ruining the environment. Eventually it will become feasible to get it all, but we aren't there yet. They are going for the low hanging fruit now though.

Just because you read it on the intarweb, doesn't make it true.

Face it, he who holds the resources has the power. We'll buy resources from everybody else and then hold the the key.

Supply/demand. You just can't avoid it. Supply/demand.

I hate this misinformation about the fucking oil sands.

Canadian oil sands have been profitable since $25/barrel.

END OF STORY.

Just about as real as those emails you get saying you won $1 million.

I'd its spam myself as well.

It's easy to see why it's not tapped yet...

Cost

and

Use up the rest of the worlds' supply, then charge 500x that for our oil.

The US has a lot of untapped oil reserves. Is it expensive to extract? Depends on what you include in your calculations. If you simp,ly include the costs associated with taking the oil from the ground, it would be a very worth-while exercise. The real costs, however, come from having to fight the tree-hugging liberals and lobbyists that oppose the drilling for oil on quasi-ecological terms.

Personally, I believe global warming is a myth. I think the warming of the planet is a natural occurrence just as the tides shift. In the 70s, many of these same global warming enthusiasts were proclaiming we were on the verge of an impending ice age. I think it is just a natural progression of the Earth and it will self-correct again.

Alaska, for example, has a wealth of oil available. However, we can't tap into it's resources because too many oppose drilling in a bunch of rock and ice for ecological reasons. (Umm...it's rock, okay?)

Am I the only person who isn't excited about this? Not just that, I think we should just pretend it isn't there. We don't need to run our god damn oil dry before we start developing completely different forms of energy creation.

I wouldn't say that around here...
