I think this is rediculous! Yes, they are cheaters... yes they should be kicked out of school, but arrested? Come on! That just ain't right!

Well worth it. Cheating gets you nowhere.

Besides, plenty of people cheat on important tests like this, get screwed later. Example ... TOFEL test. Test says they understand English, but when it comes down to reading and writing for college coursework, screwed. MCAT, dont want a cheater to work on me.

columbia! representin! i know one of those guys...smart dudes, but they deserve to be punished.

The two students were arraigned Tuesday and charged with third-degree burglary and unlawful duplication of computer material, according to the Associated Press.

WTH? How does cheating on a test become burglary and unlawful duping?

Idiots. If you're going to charge people, at least do it right. 😛

Edit - Speaking of idiot, I can't remember the difference between FuseTalk and iB. Damn quote vs q. 😛

I feel they should be punished in some way. The school or learning center or whoever really seems to be going all out on this.

Uh, read the article folks. This wasn't a school test. There is no school to be kicked out of. It's was the GRE.

The rules specifically state that you can't remove materials or take test questions out of the room, which is what they effectively did.

Now jail is a bit harsh, but if that's what the rules stated, they are guilty of stealing test material.

Burglary and unlawful duplication most likely come from the fact that the test is copyrighted material. The fact that they were using electronic means to do so leads me to believe that the feds could add wire fraud (or something similar) to the charges if they really want to.

at UT, if you are caught cheating the worst punishment you can get is failing the course. gotta love not having an honor system...

The GRE is a piece of cake. There is no reason anyone should have to cheat on that test. I think jail time is harsh, but what else can they do to punish them? Just let them go without punishment? However I'm not sure if burglary is the proper charge.

It's the GRE, not a college test. Read the article.

It's kinda sick that people who got into COLUMBIA are worried about not doing good enough on the friggin' GRE.

I guess the burgled the school to get the test info in the first place. What a bunch of fools tohugh. If they ain't clever enough, then cheatin gon a test ain't gonna do them much good in the future anyway.

The TOEFL test was the most secure test I ever took. You had to sign-in, show your ID, ....., and there was video surveillance. :Q
