I was wondering if I can run my Creative X-Fi Titanium & E-Mu 1212m in my system. Has anyone tried this or know if this will work without a problem?

I'm basically looking for a device with a 1/4" jack that will accommodate recording a pre-amped guitar or bass..

Seeing as when you install a sound card you still have onboard sound (two different sources) then installing two cards would just add another audio source in your audio settings to choose from.

In theory they should be able to co-exist in the same computer. But for simultaneous use, AFAIK Windows will only allow output to one card at a time, you would have to manually switch the output source.

Should work fine, not guaranteed as Driver conflicts could arise(immediately gets nervous due to "Creative" mentioned). Right now Win7 shows 5 Sound Devices for me, from 3 Physical different devices(Onboard Sound, HDMI/Vidcard, USB Headphones) and they all work fine(haven't tried the Vidcard audio though).

The only issue is that you can only have Windows use 1 at any given moment and need to switch them as needed. There's probably a way to simplify the switching, but I haven't been affected enough to bother finding it.

In both Win 7 and Win XP I was only ever allowed to use one sound device output at a time. I suppose somebody out there has written a special program to override that.

May I ask what you are doing that you feel the need to output from two different sound cards at the same time? Even with a 2nd set of speakers I dont know what you'd get out of it. At best it would be a minor annoyance and at worst it may assplode your skull.

OP, you're not trying to use them both at the same time are you?

If you want to game with the X-Fi and do DAW work with the EMU, you should be able to switch back and forth, no simultaneous use as Windows main audio outputs though.

some programs allow you to specify the output device.

if you use default wave mapper or some other such default directsound device, then of course it's gonna pick whatever you have picked for the output device.

yeah then all you would do is change default recording devices when its time to record.

So I finally got the E-Mu installed and the sister card with the 1/" jacks hooked up an installed. The Creative X-Fi Titanium card does not function now. Don't know why. If I can't use either or then I'll try to get things workin with this E-Mu for now... Looks like I need a different connector to hook it to my speakers. All I've known is the simple 1/8" green, orange, & black 5.1 surround hookups from the speakers system to the sound card. This E-Mu doesn't have those jacks. It has some funky hook-ups i am not familiar with..
