I got in on this off of SD. Seems like a really hot deal. You can't beat free/money back. :)

Simple tech are not great. Very slow. Make a decent usb boot disk so far but not fun to write to them.

I got my order today. It's funny that one of the drive is ok but the other one is extremely slow. I tried to copy 92 mp3 files, total size about 280MB. The good one takes about 2 minutes but the slow one takes more than 8 minutes. I have emailed Simpletech to ask for a replacement, let's see what they say.
I also have other USB drives. For the same mp3 files, it's 1 minute and 15 seconds for Kingston Data Traveler 1GB drive, about 2 minutes also for ACP-EP 2GB drive and PNY 1GB drive.

I got mine yesterday and they are SLOOOOW. I copied a folder with 383 MB (302 files) to the SimpleTech and it took more than 22 minutes! It takes less than 4 minutes on my Sandisk Cruzer.

The price is right, but now I have to figure out how to best use a SLOOOOW USB drive.

The two drives I got are slow as heck. It took over 15 minutes to copy 300MB of pictures onto one. I tested them both and the write speeds are .2 MB/s and .12 MB/s (yes, there are decimals in front of those write speeds). They both rated at 20MB/s read, so at least that's alright. I'm especially ticked off because Buy.com sent me two USB drives in a box from Simpletech and Simpletech's rebate asks for the original UPC barcodes cut out from the clamshell package. Anybody else run into this problem? I don't know if the UPC that's on the cardboard box they sent me is the same as the one from the clamshell package. I hope I don't get screwed out of the rebate and end up having paid $24 for these practically useless flash drives. Once Simpletech's online RMA finishes maintenance this morning, I'm going to see about RMAing these.

Good news is I got my simple tech rebate. And without having to go postal on them. Bad news is so far my 1 gig has totally lost its data 3 or 4 times now. I mostly use it as a boot device where the speed is passable but still sower than a cd. I may need to rma it.

At this price point, they stick whatever memory they can get on the spot market into those sticks. You just don't know what you're getting.
Unless the manufacturer guarantees a certain throughput, or has a high-speed model, you might just get junk.

I got my replacement today. This one is really fast! It's faster than my Kingston Data Traveler 1GB drive. It takes less than 1 minute to copy 300MB 92 mp3 files.
