Wow, I just read an insightful comment on Youtube. My mind is blown.

There's always these news stories where a shooting occurs because two people were arguing over something trifling, like a radio being too loud or over an ice cream cone or over a parking spot. And then everyone says how ridiculous and crazy it is that people would fight to the death over something so small and insignificant. But those people completely miss the point. These fights are never over the original matter. They are about the escalation that results from disrespect and verbal abuse.

Kool Aid must be banned. At the very least, intense backround checks must be performed on anybody purchasing and/or selling this powder.

LOL that commentor is probably somebody who would think its OK to kill people for insulting his religion or his mother.

Are you kidding? Read it again. It's pointing out a different problem that seems to have gone right over your head. One that's caused by clashes that inevitably happen in this society where "self-respect" is everything.

Seriously. I just had to set my niece straight the other day for acting proud that she can't let an insult or perceived slight go. Two people like that start demanding respect from each other and...
Guess what?
...neither will EVER get it.

We've made a society full of proud assholes who "believe in themselves" but it's OK because at least they don't have low self-esteem and won't let anyone get away with saying anything bad about them.

Good point. The Detroit school system may not have taught 75% of them to read or write, but it did teach them to have high self esteem.

Everyone knows that, it isn't insightful at all.
What surprises people with these stories is how people let the situations escalate and don't stop to think, "hey wait a minute... Its just kool-aid". In 99.99 percent of conversations about proper look-aid preparation (haha) that escalate to heated arguments, one or more of the individuals will deescalate or diffuse the situation before it turns violent. So it is surprising, tragic, and in this case almost humorous (though still terrible) that a conversation about kool-aid turned into a gun fight.

Obviously people can be violent and aggressive over anything, even if someone looks at them the "wrong way".
