And the pullout from the Afghan ministries suddenly called into question the coalition’s entire strategy of joint operations with Afghan forces across the country...

This is bad news. These men were killed inside the most secure part of the MOI, in an American workspace (behind two combination locked steel doors.) This happened in the secure MOI compound, inside the Kabul green zone (think a fort, in a fort, in a fort.) Afghans aren't even typically allowed armed inside the green zone as it's a civilian government area.

As a result, COMISAF has ordered all American military advisers out of Afghan ministries and back to Camp Eggers & ISAF HQ, essentially suspending our mission in Afghanistan. If the advisers working in the most secure locations in the country are no longer safe, I'd say we're well and truly fucked. :\ These highly publicized green on blue killings severely damage relationships across the country. All trust goes out the window, and your ability to work with and mentor someone that you think may be plotting to kill you is put to the test.

In a way, I kind of wish national security threat existed if for no other reason than that shit like this wouldn't be in vain. I can't believe so many people think they're protecting liberty.

After 911, at least from what I read, the bulk of the Afghan people preferred to support Nato. But sadly, the US committed such insufficient funding, that the greatest problem for Nato, is the anarchy Nato tows behind in its own wake, leaves much of Afghanistan in Taliban hands.

Meanwhile insensitivity incidents like burned Korans profit Nato zero but really handicaps Nato.

The Robert MacNamera voice on why lost in Vietnam keeps coming back, there are limits in military power when trying to occupy a foreign country.

It wasn't 'accidental'.

You keep repeating that false statement.

I heard that it was burned because prisoners were writing messages to each other in it, desecrating the Quran and against the Geneva protocols for prisoners of war. Is that accurate?

That is accurate. The military police running the BAF prison then consulted the Imam at the BAF mosque (maintained so that the contractors have a place to worship during their work day) about what to do with desecrated Korans. The Imam told them they should be burned immediately, so that's what they did.

Edited to add: Prisoners should go to any means to communicate, organize together and draw strength to resist or escape. Passing notes isn't in violation of the Geneva convention, and you can damn well bet Americans would be doing the same thing if their rolls were reversed.

I wonder if we'll hear an apology from those who didn't realize this.
