Working on a problem with a KA266-R, in where the CD-ROMS show up on explorer, but they don't work. If you put a CD in, it will not autorun. If you click on the CD, you get a message "Please enter a CD", and it still will not read. If you reboot and have a CD in the drive, then the CD works as normal. This configuration works fine with NT and ME.

Configuration:

1.2Mgz Tbird with Iwill KA266-R.
Windows 2000 Server with SP2
Adaptec 2940UW with two CD's.

Any ideas??

Make sure that your SCSI ID numbers are NOT 0 or 1 for your CD-ROM's. Win2K is picky that way. I had the same problem, found the solution from the MS KnowledgeBase.

If you have Adaptec EZ-SCSI installed. Run SCSI Explorer to see ID's being used. The 2940UW should be at ID 7(highest priority) and cd's on two other ID's. You did not give CD types being used. Here are some tips. On 8 bit(narrow 50 pin) devices the ID's must be on ID's 0 to 6. 16 bit(wide 68 pin) can be on ID's 0 to 6 and 8 to 15. If you are using a SCSI drive for booting it is best to set it's ID to zero. Also nice to leave zero unused for use as a boot ID in future.
