Hi all,

Been trying to search for the names of 2 science fiction books I read at the end of 1989 or 1990. I have always wanted to re-read the stories but the books were on loan from a fellow worker.

The one was about this guy that wakes up and finds that he has suffered severe head trauma but that he has these nanobots in his blood stream. They are helping to repair the damage, but he has memory loss. He also finds that sometimes when they detect him being threatened, they seem to take over his body control. He finds that he grows knives from his knuckles. Sounds all X-Men and Crysis 2, but that was the story. I also remember parts where he is in a factory and parts are being assembles by nanobots from a large container of the stuff that they where in. They basically put things together molecule by molecule. Again, sounds like 3D printing. But then science fiction does sometimes predict science fact. Any ideas on the title and author?

The second book was about this group of people that find another race which happen to be on a neutron planet and they try communicating with them. Apparently because they are neutron based, they are very small and their life cycles run very quickly. By the time the group has managed to transmit a message to the neutron race, whole generations have gone by. they have to have this fancy compression / expansion messaging system so that each can understand each other. Again, any ideas on the title and author.

I have tried Google, but it is a bit difficult searching the above.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. It is frustrating me no end trying to find them.

Regards,

The Borg.

Yeah, I could have identified Dragon's Egg as well, but that first one isn't ringing a bell at all.
