Someone here a couple of years ago linked me to a simple site that helped me when i setup my home network originally like 2-3 years ago. I cant locate it on this board or thru google, mainly because i dont know the terms and what its called. Orginally one modem was a vonage/router and that crashed so we swapped out a modem but my brother RESET both routers so we lost all the settings and he was messing with all the wiring.

This is pretty much what i have. Im 95% sure its called an access point since thats where i got the picture from. Both are linksys routers modded with DD-WRT. They are linked via CAT5 cable. One router is wifi for the front of the house and one is the rear (basement and garage). They ran on two different SSID and pretty much were two separate networks. I like it and want it that EXACT way.

I read i have to change the subnet, but everytime i change it to say 192.168.13.1, i cant log back into the router. I thought maybe i should log in with the 192.186.1.1 or 192.168.13.1, neither works and i'm locked out in a sense.

The only setup i have working is i think a "bridge" this is where the CAT5 cable goes from LAN 2 and to LAN 2 of the routers. But that means they are on the same network. I'm pretty sure i had it LAN 2 to internet IN on the second router.

Anyone know how i can set it up the way i had it?

if you want some of the PCs off of the access point, to be on a different subnet, then change the AP setting to router setting, re-enable DHCP, set the subnet to be different, and plug the AP's WAN cable into the main routers LAN port.

this will, however, incur double-NAT for the computers behind the AP (now router 2)

in operating mode.. would router 1 be ROUTER and router 2 be a gateway?

everytime i do a setting, it will not let me go back into router setting screen (192.168.1.1)

^ ok so i did option 1 when i was aiming for option 2.

Here is my problem, when i change it 192.168.2.x on my 2nd router. It kinda blocks me out. Instead of typing 192.168.1.x to log into the 2nd router i gotta type in 192.168.2.x, even then it lags out. I can get to the summary page of DD WRT but when i go to log in, it just locks up. powering down doesn't do much.

It does function on the 2 router system but the 2nd router drops the connection a lot. Not sure if routers dont like each other or my settings were off.

Right now i just moved my main router WRT160N to the middle of the house and now looking up specs to strength overall signal, i just know to bring up the Tx rate.
