2% raise

What?s the inflation rate, like 3% in the bay area? I find out today that I only got a 2% raise because apparently the engineering dept doesn?t have the funds. My supervisor agrees that its not as much as he would like but he has no control over it. Then he keeps mentioning how the office manager thinks highly of me because he keeps hearing good things about me from other people.

Whats the typical % pay increase when jumping to different companies? I think last time for me it was around 11% from my old job to this current.

There could be absolutely no pay increase when jumping to a different company, or a pay decrease. Depends if you are currently under/overpaid, or paid average, and how good you are.

2% is rather poor. But hey, it's better than nothing.

1) Interview at other companies
2) Get offer
3) Go to supervisor and tell him about offer
4) If counteroffer >= offer then stay, else leave
5) Congrats you just beat inflation.

That is a bit low, but not unheard of. Here we have a great example of why there is no employee loyalty. Financially, an employee will come out better by changing companies every few years (to a point) than by staying with the same one.

at my old job i got around 8-10%. it was a small private start up civil engineering company. i guess big corporate engineering firms are more strict and stingy

looks like i'll have to jump. i wouldn't stay even if they counter just so they can fire me later for being disloyal, after they find an appropriate replacement of course.

5) Congrats you are now in a job where your boss knows you are unhappy..chances are you will get canned in the next 6months.

fixed

asking your current employer to counter offer is generally career suicide at that company...remember...just because you are worth keeping around, doesn't mean you are important.

I got nothing. I live in Chicago. Sucks. My company sucks. I am currently interviewing, hopefully I can jump ship soon.

It's better than nothing I suppose. I worked for the city government (NYC) for 3 years and in all we received 2% raises (1% on the first year and another 1% on the third year). With my new company, they gave me a 3% raise but my salary is pretty high to start anyway so its not that bad.

Got a 3% raise in March and looking forward to my promotion in September that my manager keeps saying...

4-5% at my job. That pretty much helps out w/ the inflation issue. 2% is weak and hopefully doesn't become a common trend at your job.

Got a 1.8% pay raise this year.
But they cut 1% of the company contribution to 401k.
And they got rid of attendance bonuses for hourly folks. (I"m salary though.)
So I got a .8% raise this year.

That's like giving a delivery driver a quarter for a tip.

hopefully i don't stay long enough to find out.

I haven't had a raise in awhile. I've been a contractor for the past two years and we don't get raises. I need to find a permanent gig.

Pretty terrible for an engineer with a masters degree, ya know?
