2 questions! one about amazon fire and one about a new phone!

waggy

ok 2 questions wich i think both end up here!

1) i need a new cell phone. i have a D2. I was walking through BestBuy today and seen a huge phone. the screen was like 5inch. i can't remember what brand or wich one it was (it was for Verizon) any clue what i have seen and is it worth it (yeah big help i know!)

2) how is the amazon fire? my daughter wants one (hopefully i find one used heh). I would like a color screen and the fire looks like it has the options (and price) that is better then a Ipad or such.

1) was probably the galaxy nexus (4.65"), as I don't think the galaxy note/journal is out for verizon

2) amazon fire is great. it is solid to begin with, and has a very active dev community including the cyanogenmod team.

1) probably the Galaxy Note, its AT&T. I would go with the D4 (if you liked the D2)
2) The Kindle Fire is a GREAT little tablet. It has many options (hacking wise), and also its at a nice price (for the features that it has). Its a perfect alternative to the iPad

1) The biggest Verizon phone I can think of is the Galaxy Nexus (4.65"). The 4.7" HTC Titan and 5.3" Galaxy Note are on AT&T, and the HTC One X isn't out yet.

2) I have a Kindle Fire and its perfectly fine. Plays games, browses the web, etc. No, it doesn't have as many apps as the iPad or standard Android devices, and no it doesn't operate quite as smoothly, but considering how much cheaper it is, its a great deal. By the way, you can get a refurb from Amazon for $169.

The note sounds familiar. i should have written it down while iw as at the store. next time im in town i might stop in again (i live 20 min from the nearest town)

great. will look at getting a Fire. it would be great when at gymnastics meets and such.

how is browsing on the kindle, i heard silk was kind of slow but amazon said it would get better, did that ever happen? also is there a way to try the kindle out in a store, or does the demo software they run on it not allow you to do that?

I'm curious about this as well. Silk was junk at launch, but Amazon's pushed several updates to the Fire since then. Haven't seen any write ups with the newer firmwares.

All the demo units I've seen at my local Best Buys have been locked into the stupid demo loop.

from my hands on (with my friends unrooted one) it seems nice, its not terrible, its not the best either, its decent :sneaky:

My 97 yr. old mother-in-law has the Fire and loves it. Took her a while to figure it out, but she did it and now listens to music, reads, watches TV programs. It and set of earbuds pretty much changed her world. Great product.

As for a phone, I just upgraded to an Atrix 2 (4.3" screen), which I really like. It's one of the only two Moto phones carried by AT&T now; if you need to go Verizon, don't know what to tell you.

Its certainly better than it was before. I actually had Silk disabled (or used Opera) because it would occasionally get these weird hiccups where it would just spin before loading a page - I haven't seen one of those in quite awhile. Its still not a terribly smooth scrolling/zooming experience, but page loading speed is good.

yeah i like it.

also did some searching and Verizon is getting it Q2 (but renaming it journey or something lame)

i dont think it actually has a higher resolution than say galaxy nexus or resound, so im not sure what the point of the larger size is, except to make it harder to carry

Harder to carry easier to see.
Its not all about DPI or resolution. Moreso since with phones resolution is solely about DPI rather than squishing in more stuff.

My gnex is 4.65 and its huge
Except in high school you gotta have a bad ass phone. And plus I love hacking so....this is what I got

exactly.

I have a D2 and have always complain its to small. Hell if they would have attachment to a tablet that you can use as a phone i would do that.
