2 questions on the Canopus ADVC-100 and 1394

These two models seem very similar, but two things are not clear.

Does the 1394 have defeatable Macrovision?

Do they use the same encoding chip?

IIRC neither model reads macrovision. The 1394 is a PCI card that has digital I/O but only analog in (no analog out). The ADVC-100 is an external box that connects via Firewire and has both digital and analog I/O.

can you capture from a DV cam and encode to Mpeg2 in real time, and can you edit in Mpeg2 in real time via hardware? Or am I dreaming about doing this for under $2000
