2 pin female into 3 pin male mobo header?

This is a surprisingly simply question.

I have a fan here that came with a 2-pin female connector. I have only 3-pin headers available on the mobo. Will this work?

I mean if I cut off the rear clip, and plugged it into the ground/12V plugs on the mobo, leaving the sensor pin unconnected?

UPDATE:

HOLY CRAP THESE ARE NICE! It's almost silent. Well, compared to the stock fans I had before (the underpowered Lian Li type, which were still loud).

Quieter? Much, even when compared to those underpowered OEM fans. Having only 3 of these fans also helps.

Cool? Case temps are down from 37C to 32-33C. About -1C difference on CPU (not really). This is way better than I had expected.

Forget about foam insulation; if you want a quiet, powerful PC, either don't get a PC, or buy Panaflos.

Not bad for 3 bucks a peice. Should've bought a few more.

Are these from bgmicro?

Have you tried running them at 5-7V, and if so have you noticed any ticking?
