Did your friend copy the movie and ship the copy to them? That might be why he got an email.

i may give it a go. i tried bb online before but was slower than netflix (best anime selection i have ever seen, and really the only thing i ever rented from them;). best deal going is bb's moviepass, esp if you live real close to one. i live about 2 miles from one and go thru about 5 to 6 movies a week. $25 a month for unlimited rentals and no waiting cannot be beat.

Could be...the other way would be for the ordering software to have some form of spyware included. I dunno.

Lets say 3 dvds go out the same day (supposedly) on Friday. I get 1 dvd mon 1 on tues and 1 on wed.

it's such a pain in the ass

BB FAQs say that the reason for this is that the DVDs may be sent out from different distribution centers so the mail times might be different.

netflix great. had for almost 2 years now. only ever had 3 disks come messed up and when i wanted them resent it only took 1 day. i like in phoenix az area so that may be why but turnaround is awesome. i get so many a month i only pay about $1 a movie so it's well worth it. have a brother in law that tried blockbuster and only could stand it for 2 months.

The turnaround time for blockbuster is 2-3 days more than netflex. Not a good ideal to switch if enjoy watching a lot of moives.

Just my luck. My two week free trial of netflix ends tomorrow and I was planning on signing up for this deal today. Oh well... no real loss.

The biggest reason why I avoid Blockbuster with extreme prejudice is because they edit some of the movies that they carry without making it obvious to their customers. Perhaps there's a disclaimer somewhere, but I've never found it. I first noticed this while watching a Blockbuster-rented copy of "The Toxic Avenger," which I'd seen a few times in years past. With the Blockbuster copy, a couple of the really memorable, gory shots were just NOT THERE. It was still rated R, but it was missing some footage that some executive must have found offensive. I later noticed similar edits in other movies.

If Blockbuster's gonna manipulate their movies without making it obvious to the customers, then screw 'em. (And sure, WalMart does the same thing, but I don't shop at WalMart, either. Netflix, as far as I know, doesn't engage in such censorship.)

Ok, my free 2 month membership expires in 4 days, I got 28 movies in 2 months, is this good, I was expecting quite a few more in 2 months time with 3 at a time. Does Netflix do better? Also I got 2 that were bad dvds and did not play, so make that 26.

I'm assuming you didn't use the "manually report them returned after 3 days" trick. You could've probably gotten around 50 or so (2 months) using it.

Do you get free coupons for the BB store with their service? That might be incentive to switch over for those late nights where you don't want to wait 3 days to get a movie..

They gave me free coupons, 2 a month and a free used dvd coupon but no store in my area, so couldnt use them, what is the manual return after 3 days trick?

Upon cancellation, they offered me a third month for 10 dollars off the $17.99 for $4.99 so I took it. How is 10 dollars off $17.99 $4.99?

In the account center part of BB.com there is a button that essentially says 'i've shipped my movies several days ago, so you should have them they probably got lost in the mail' that you can click and it sends the next movie in your queue.

i know people are saying lots of bad things about bb, but i thought i would just share my experience.
i live northwest of boston, the closest distribution center for both blockbuster and netflix is in worcester. netflix takes and extra day from their door to mine, and another day for the trip back. overall, turnaround time is two days more.
blockbuster has sent me a wrong dvd (sequel that had a similar title) but is now sending me 4 dvds at a time (how penitent!).
also, blockbuster has the free instore movie passes.
just might be my luck/location, but blockbuster is much better and i'm cancelling my netflix account before i get charged again.
btw, does anyone know, if you cancel your netflix account, do you still have use for the remainder of the month you paid for? or are you cut off from using the online system and can't get anymore movies?

if you cancel your netflix account, it will be closed and they don't let you use any remaining time.

Business must be good: they just increased their prices (old plan $14.99 for 3 out to $17.99, starts 8/19/05). I'm out after my free month unless they offer me another month for free or $7.99, otherwise I'm gone. I'm not impressed with the quality of the discs, they are sometimes layered with grime (I have to use rubbing alcohol to even get them to play). Sorry state. You'd think they'd see how cruddy the discs are and at least run them through a cleaner.
