2 Monitors: Diff b/t DisplayPort daisy-chaining and a discrete connection to GPU?

I just got a Dell U2415 and love it. I've got it connected via DisplayPort. I noticed that the monitor has a DP-OUT. I assume that is for daisy-chaining another monitor?

What is the diff b/t daisy-chaining a 2nd monitor and running a discrete connection (2nd DP cable) for the 2nd monitor?

I am thinking about getting a 2nd monitor and trying out dual-screen 3840x1200 gaming goodness...but then I'd need a beefier GPU than the GTX670 I currently have. You know how this computer-hardware-upgrade-thing goes.

Thanks for educating me.

Correct.

It's mostly for setups where you don't have additional available DisplayPorts (e.g. most NVIDIA cards only have 1 such output). Alternatively you could use it to hook up a second/third monitor with a much shorter cable to the first monitor rather than having to run another cable to the computer.

Thanks, ViRGE. That is helpful information. Do you know if the daisy-chained monitor is recognized by the OS as a discrete monitor, or seen some other way?

It will be recognized by the OS as a discrete monitor.

I just got 3 of that monitor on Black Friday deal. Love how thin the bezels are. I got a 290 pushing it so I can run things on high without AA for the most part maintaining 60fps. It's really impressive in person for sure
