2 modems on the same line?

Hi,
My wireless router, located on the second floor of my house is not enough powerful to feed my computer which is located in the basement.
So Ive decided to buy another modem (speedstream 5360) to feed my computer which is in the basement. (we are talking about a dsl connection here)
However, when I tried to connect the new modem I just received, the internet just shuts off on both modems 🙁.
So Ive concluded that we cant have unfortunatly 2 modem on the same line 🙁. (Ive just lost some money for nothing)
So i was wondering if I was right and if so, is there a way to bypass that? (to have 2 modems working on the same line)....

ps: arg... i knew i should of bought a more powerfull wireless router than spend my money on buying a second modem ><. I ve decided to buy another modem cause I use the computer in the basement for video gaming, so I didnt want to have it wireless since sometime wireless acts up (u know..)

2 modems on one line is a no-no.

install your modem / wireless router in the basement, hardwire your downstairs computer, and disconnect the modem on the second floor.

if you have no way to wire the second floor to the basement, and the wireless signal isnt strong enough to reach, you need to investigate in extending your wireless network

Nope, nothing you can do about it, return the Modem and get a long wire if you do not want to use wireless.

Even you ISP can not do it, however, you can install a second telephone line and get a second Broadband account.

Could also consider some powerline networking if you cant make the wireless work and cant run a line.
