2 linksys routers on network. Problems

our conn. just drops and I just power cycle and unhook the line to the other router then it comes back.

If I disable dhcp should that work? Cause I tried that and am wondering if I need to change anything else.

or to set the one up as just a switch?

thanks

Hmm... your post isn't very clear but it can be done with some static routes.

Why are you daisy chaining routers though?

We don't have hubs or switches. We both had the same router and we need to use them due to laying cable in the house.

thanks

Ok...

Router #2 needs a seperate network and static route pointing to router #1. I would recommend disabling DHCP on one or both routers. It can get very ugly but it will work.

Disable the DHCP server on router number 2 so it acts as only a switch.

This is done by choosing the DHCP tab in the router configuration utility and choosing "Disable" under the DHCP server option.

I disabled the dhcp on the 2nd router and its still dropping the network.

I tried it before and I'm not sure whats goin on.

thanks for the input, I really appreciate it.

Very simple. Disable the DHCP on one router. Use a crossover cable to connect from the switch on the router (NOT THE WAN PORT) to the other router. This should get everything running just fine.

You will also need to change the IP address of the second router (i.e. the linksys uses 192.168.1.1 as the default IP, you need to change the second router's IP to 192.168.1.2 or something like that).
