Asus K8N-E Deluxe flashed to 1.005
Latest drivers for NIC were obtained from asus.com(via nvidia chipset) and installed. The whole PC was fine for about 2 weeks, playing BF1942, working, whatever, it worked fine. For OS protection, I had Viruscan 7.1 and Spy-bot (with its built in IE protections) installed. It was connected to a Microsoft Wireless router, MN-500.
Somewhere at the end of two weeks the thing just starts locking up, OS locks up, I have to do resets. Nothing works. I was thinking infection, spyware. Managed to gain control of OS when discconecting NIC cable, scanned for viruses, spyware, etc.... Nothing found.
Well, thinking that I had in someway mucked up the OS, I think its so messed up I have to re-install the OS. I reinstall from scratch, reformat partition. Its acting fine, but when I install the drivers from ASUS Nvidia CD, things start crashing again...... I AGAIN re-format, re-install, install the Nvidia chipset stuff, again it crashes.
Well, I narrow it down to the NIC. I disable the NIC in the OS. I break out that buffalo wireless G router and USB G wireless stuff. Take the MN-500 out of service, install that buffalo wireless router, then install the drivers for the buffalo USB device. I can again get on the Internet. Everything is fine.
I manage to get an RMA from ZZF, they never acknowledged my online RMA submissions, I had to call.
Well, I get a new board, install, enable the NIC, all is working fine for 2 days, then on the third day, the thing has crapped out again. Exact same problems as before. I disable the hardware NIC and the OS is stable. I hook up the the wireless again.
We can't say its the switch/router shorting out the K8N NIC, there were two different ones in service.
We can't say its the NIC cable shorting out the K8N NIC, there were two different ones in service as well.
Why is it that the NIC on these K8N-E Deluxes keep crapping out?
