2 in a raid or one drive?

I was thinking of going with a WD800jb hd (with 8 bm cache) with a MSI kt3 ultra2r MB. Then I saw the deal for 60 gig Maxtors in the Hot Deals section of A&T. So, then I'm a thinking.... maybe two of these babys in a raid. I would have more storage and save money. Would I be sacrificing speed or performance with the raid? Is the raid fairly easy to setup? What are the advantage/disadvantages as you see it?
