will I experience any lag or slow-down if i put...

1) two ATA66 Harddrives on 1 IDE Channel
or
2) a burner and a CDrom on 1 IDE channel
or
3) a hard drive annd a burner...

well, my actual concern is; I gonna buy a burner, and I already have one Harddrive and a CDROM, (only 2 IDE channel avaiable on my mobo, and not gonna buy a PCI ATA66 card)

should I take out the CDROM and replace it w/ the burner,

or put both CDROM and burner together...

I'd leave the hard drive on one and put the CD-ROM and burner on the other.

ditto, unless you do a ton of on the fly recording, then i would do hd/cdrom and the burner on it's own.

well, I was playing around with my friend's computer a few days ago,

he had a 12x DVD-rom, and when I installed programs like quake, it took only 10 minutes or less..

then he decided to reformat his harddrive, while want me to install he newly purchased Plextor 12x burner...
so I put them both in one IDE channel with the Burner being the Master,
and when I install Q3A again, it took almost half an hour... it freaked me out badly.

yes, i would also put the burner and the cd-rom on one channel and leave the hdd on the other. unless you have two devices doing work at the same time on one channel, only then does it limit the amount of data transfer over that specific channel. and even then, the master device takes precedence over the slave.

I'd recommend putting the burner and HDD on the same channel for on-the-fly burning. Then installing software from the CD-ROM won't take so long.

I have two ATA 66 hard drives on one IDE channel and a Plextor burner and an ATA 100 hard drive on the other. I have not had any problems with this setup. Try it and see if it negatively affects your system's performance.
