2 IDE cable questions

My first question is are rounded IDE cables any worse to use in a system? I went to buy a new cable today and looked at the rounded ide cables but they all looked pretty crappy. They looked like someone just took apart a regular cable and then put a colorful plastic sheath overtop.

My second question is, is it true that IDE cables should not be over 24"? I swear I heard that somewhere, but the only cables in two different stores were 35".

Ok.. IDE round cables are just Ide cables that have been folded, and then had a plastic coloured sheath overtop lol, to use your words, and No.. that is not true about the 24Inch rule, though I like to stay in the lower inches so as its not messy. I like Round IDE cables for few reasons, they look better, take up less room, less of a hassle to get power supply cords around, and lastly, because they supposably increase airflow, if you want to see some pretty ones.. (round floppy cables are very useful at the 10 inch size too) go to : http://xoxide.com/roundidecables1.html

Well the ones I saw didn't look folded. They looked like someone pulled apart each wire. Maybe they were just a crappy make or something.

the ones that i bought were stranded as opposed to the folded ones that came with my dfi mobo. that shouldnt make any difference besides the folded ones being less flexible, but try to get 80 conductor cables when you do get them. there is a small theoretical performance loss due to interference/crosstalk with round ides, but in reality it is not noticable. the only real advantage of ribbon cables is that with some cases you can route them behind the mobo tray so that they arent visible. long story short go ahead and pick up a set, i got mine from atacom and havent been disappointed yet.

Get the round cables and don't look back. Go to SVC.COM and look at there cables as they have then in all sizes colors and prices.
