2 highschool Senior years

At my school, it has been approved by my principal to take a second senior year. I would just have to present what I want to do it for in front of the school board. I want to do this so I am able to take every advanced course I want to. Without taking a 2nd senior year, I might not be able to get all the prerequisites for AP Calculus, and then be able to take AP cal. There are some other computer classes I might not be able to take either. I would think that taking two senior years wouldn't have a negative affect when colleges look at you, in fact, I thought it would make you look good...since it shows I am serious about my education, and I want to learn. On the other hand, something tells me it will just be time to move on, but I just want to get everything I want out of highschool. Im stuck. I dont know what to do. I am only a sophmore now, but as many of you should know, its a good idea to plan ahead. Whats your take on this situation?

Dont take a 5th year of high school, take college level courses. Or better yet, graduate.

At this point you're just delaying graduating to take advanced level courses which are basically intro courses in college. Just looks like you're not mature enough to handle college and still want to stay in high shcool.

You're only a sophmore now? Are you thinking about slacking the next couple of years and then taking an extra year and hitting on the now freshman chicks?
AP Calc souldn't be hard to get into.
Algebra 1 (freshman)
Algebra 2 (sophmore)
Pre-calc (junior)
AP calc AB/BC (senior)

I know, but wont it look better to colleges if I already have those courses?

I don't slack off in school.

WIth how my schedule works, and has worked, I wont be able to take Algebra 2 until next year. And then I need to take pre-cal, cal, and then AP cal

It won't look very good that you spent 5 years in HS. You seriously need to use some common sense and go on to college.

And five years in high school is just dandy.

Will they just assume that I failed classes and had to go onto another year? Or will they actually find out why I did it?
My friend is the one who first brought up this idea. He has talked to some colleges, and has gotten a lot of mixed feelings on how it will look. So the best thing might be for me to look into what college I want to attend, and see how they stand on it...but I dont even know where I want to go.

Yeah seriously, doing 2 senior years is retarded, and AP's don't prepare you for upper division course work, take it from someone who started college with 30 credits. Have fun your senior year, get some AP work in to skip the easy classes, then go to college and have fun.

It will look pathetic, and it will be a total waste of your time. Go to college or get a job.

They get your transcripts, so they will know exactly why you took 5 years of high school and they will pass you over. Colleges look for well rounded candidates, taking an extra year of high school just so you can take more AP classes will not make you more well rounded.

Buddy you need to grow a brain. Are you really going to like walking around your high schooling knowing that you don't have to be there? That you could be at a college being treated like an adult instead of goofing around with a bunch of stupid high school kids?

Do you have any idea how dumb you'll feel walking around that 5th year?

Don't you want to graduate with all your friends?

Don't you want to "grow up" and be an adult?

This is seriously the dumbest serious post I've read in a long time.

Go to college or get a job.

Another thing Im considering, since I will be getting A+ certified this summer, is to work at a comp. shop for a year after I graduate. Since I want to go to college for something in the computer field, would this be a better use of my time?

You're asking would getting work experience be better than doing a 5th year of high school?

You know what, you should do a 5th year in high school as punishment for such a dumb idea. I'm serious. Do a 5th year. You deserve it. Wow. This is beyond dumb.

There is a reason no one does 2 senior years in high school. Cuz it's STUPID. seriously. Stop considering it NOW. It will not help you get into college. If you want to get ahead, you can graduate high school, and then take calc or whatever other classes you want at a community college before moving onto whatever univeristy you get into. I can't believe you're even considering this. What do you parents think? Do they support you on this cuz if they do, they are giving you TERRIBLE advice.

Jeez, Im just asking for some help. No need to get all flustered. I can see why the mods gave you a vacation after your post in the politics and news.

But last time I checked, putting more work into something was a dumb idea. Even though in this case, I could probably put that work to better use.

It seems unanimous. I am not going to make a decision completely over your advice, but it has greatly helped, and I thank you all!
