If the GTX 590 ends up being 2 GTX 580's then for a 30" the 590, but yes we dont know for sure yet until it is released.

It's a mixed bag, if you are going with two 6990's it looks like it would be worth it (saving space, power, and number of PCI slots compared to 4x 6970) But if you only wanted one then you personally would be better off with a 2nd 570.

Considering you already have a GTX570, likely that will be the better option. And since we don't even know what a 'GTX590' (assuming that is the name) will have under the hood, it's pretty difficult to make a recommendation.

If GTX590 has 2x GTX580 chips then it would be a better choice than GTX570 SLI due to higher memory bandwidth, more ROPs and more memory buffer.

If you can afford it then wait for a couple of weeks for the GTX590 to be released.

If i was you i would have just got en extra 570 to save myself some time and cash, after all 2x 570s are extremely powerful.

Otherwise you could sell your 570 for a small loss and jump on a 6990 or put the money towards a GTX 590 when ever it pops up on the market.

Since you already have a 570, the most cost effective solution is another 570. If starting from the ground up I'd recommend the card with the most video RAM, which seems to be the limiting factor for the current high end cards at higher resolutions.

the 570 sli comes up short because of only 1280mb framebuffer. if op wants 30" dell and wants to run 1600p then the 590 will be the better choice.

the ati 2gb cards or the 3gb 580 is what 1600p gamers should be looking at.

If the rumours are true, then the GTX 590 will have drastically reduced core and memory clocks compared to the GTX 580. I would venture to guess that a pair of GTX 570s overclocked could match it if that's true.

Really, OP, you need as much GPU power as you can afford to properly drive a 30" display. If you have the budget for a pair of GTX 580s, that would probably give you the best gaming experience you can get right now.

If you're looking to save money, look for hot deals on upper midrange GPUs and buy as many as your motherboard will accept. Keep in mind that you're going to want as much vram as you can get as well.

You'll get the good performance scaling, you'll need to see if the 1280 MB imposes any limits. The 590 doesn't exist yet. Honestly, I don't know why NVidia in its wisdom limited the 570 to such a strange complement of RAM. Would 1.5 GB have been such a stretch? In my case, 1080p, I don't care. I can max out anything right now.

I wouldn't go for the 6990 just because of thermal issues.

I'd concur with going 570 SLI unless you simply cannot spare the room, or at least wait for a 6990 with a better cooler, that thing really needed to come with a stock triple slot cooler, it is pushing the absolute limit of double slot cooling in terms of temps and noise.

if the 590 is two 580s then its likely going to cost $1000+

nVidia doesn't need dual 580s to beat AMD with the 590, and I don't see how they could manage two 580s on to one board without going triple slot cooling by default and without severely limiting the GPU clocks.

We have to keep in mind that the GTX570 consumes more power than the 6970 and that those two trade blows in game performance, so there really wouldn't be a need for nVidia to produce a 590 that was more than dual 570s in order to compete with AMD but not get too ridiculous, they did it with the GTX295 (ie dual 275 instead of 285), I think they'll do it again. And just like then we could always see some crazy AIB partners do a dual 580 card just like we had some dual 285 cards.

I suppose they could always just drastically reduce the GPU clock speeds, but with fully enabled GF110 GPUs the card will be a lot more expensive.

Benchmarks suggest otherwise, you pretty much need a triple monitor (or greater) setup to really start requiring more memory, SLI 570s will trade blows with CF 6970 at a mere 2560x1600 just fine.

30" Dell has a 6ms response, the yet to be released 27", 120hz Asus has a 1ms response time, just HOW noticeable is the difference?

The thing I would notice more is IPS for the dell vs. TN for the asus. The response time isn't as big IMHO.
