OCZ 4000EB plat, if you can find them.
I can get that for 400 bucks canadian. How does it compare to the new pc4000 OCZ XTC Gamer 2 gig ram?
Elfear, I should have mentioned that G skill and Patriot is not sold in canada, at least not where I can find it.
The 4000EB are the most expensive 2GB sticks from OCZ at the moment, this is mainly because they are the best performing. So if you are some what price conscious these maybe overkill for what you actually require. This set of RAM is great if going for tight timings through the whole MHZ range the sticks are capable of, and also hitting high speeds in excess of 280Mhz. But they do cost a lot for what they are. I am waiting to purchase some when they are in stock, seen
HERE middle set for £229.07.
If you are only looking to hit 220 ? 230Mhz OC, then maybe the OCZ 2GB 3200 LL maybe be a better choice, since these OC on about a CAS2.5 to around these speeds, and at stock they stand at 2-3-2-5 which is exceptional for 2GB sticks.
With regards to the new range the ?XTC? in which you mention, I am unsure on how these would perform (best to check some reviews, although I doubt these are top tier models). I can only imagine that they are rated at a CAS3 at 250Mhz, and probably don?t OC for jack. But then again if they are somewhat cheap (I haven?t a clue on the price), then you can be guaranteed a minimum of 250Mhz which gives you 50Mhz to play with, plus you maybe able to tighten up nicely to a CAS of 2.5 with sufficient voltage, if running them at ~230Mhz.
EDIT: actually just seen the sticks you mention, priced and displayed at the bottom of this page
HERE
It states timings of 3-4-3-8, which in my eyes is disgusting timings for 250Mhz. As you can see by the timings, you will probably be able to hit an extra 5Mhz lol.
From my point of view, comparing the two linked kits, I would prefer to spend the extra money, to get a better frequency range, and tighter timings at the given range also. The 4000EB can actually do 2-2-2-5 at 200Mhz so that?s better than the 2GB 3200LL plat, that OCZ already sells with the LL tag (however once again you do pay for that privilege)
I am a bit of a RAM performance junkie, hence my current sticks and the ones im upgrading to soon. So don?t be persuaded to purchase the 4000EB if its to pricey for you, but reluctantly they would be the sticks I would recommend (budget permitting).
Don?t forget timings and speed aren?t everything on the A64 platform, so find the best balance for your money.
