2 Frustrating problems with my system since new video card.

I just got a BFG 6800 OC recently from bestbuy, it was an upgrade from my old BFG ti 4200. I built this sytem about 2 or 3 months ago and after a doa cpu which got replaced, it ran rock solid with no problems. Everything was new except for the video card, sb audigy platinum, and 2 dvd drives. The system is:

Socket 754 3200+(clawhammer)
2x512mb corsair value select(2.5cas)
asus k8v se deluxe
hitachi 160gb 8mb buffer 7200rpm deskstar
inspire(I think) 520w power supply

After putting the new card in, in some games I can randomly lock up(though sound sometimes plays or stutters when it happens) or even if I'm surfing the web, when I come to some forms of video in my browser(opera) my system will start bogging down very seriously and freeze up if I don't work quickly to shut down the browser. This didn't happen at all with the old video card.

Also, when I either turn the pc on, hit reset button, or use restart in windows, the monitor will go to standby and the system will think it's restarting at first, but never gets very far and monitor remains in standby. I have to use the power switch in the back and after a couple attempts(sometimes several) it will finally begin posting and such and boot normally, with the monitor coming on and all.

I've tried disabling fast writes, making sure quiet and cool is off, and just skimming the bios to make sure nothing seemed wrongly set. My bios is the second to most recent revision, the most recent only added support for new cpu's, they say it didn't add any new features or fixes. Is it a bad video card? Is it maybe some option I can disable or enable in the bios? I think it has to be the video card since the system was fine before that, but the game runs fine in games until I can lockup, and it doesn't happen everytime, either. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

So if you put your old card back in, everything works ok?
This might be a long shot but try your system by removing the sound card.
If it happens to work ok without the sound card, then try the card in different pci slot.
At the worst case, you might just have a bad vid card.
