2-D patterns to create 3-D objects

Is there a program, or does anybody know how to design 2-D patterns to cut out and make 3-D objects such as spheres or egg shapes?

sure, use photoshop. at least that's what i normally use for my truespace (and ispace) animations. fwiw, just about any other graphics app that can produce common image types (*.bmp, *.gif, etc.) should do, ie ms paint.
