2 Connections in my house?

I have road runner cable, and i am not sure if it is possible to have a modem downstairs with a connection, and then put another one upstairs for a different computer. does anyone know, or know how i can find out?

With Roadrunner you could, assuming your signal is strong enough, and you are willing to pay for the extra service. With RR's network, at least when it was here, they add the MAC address of the modem to their end which allows it to connect, so you cant just throw another modem on and expect it to work.

My friend used to do that, but he still had to pay the extra 10 bucks a month for the additional MAC address. Now that they switched it to recognize the modem address it stopped working. (now that I think of it, its probably because its now Comcast where I live) Why not just setup a network? If its still 10 bucks a month then in a year you more than paid for a wireless network.

i dotn want to set up a network cuz its at complete opposite side of house, and upstairs. that'd be a toughy 🙁

Roadrunner will do mutiple modems to your house. I have one of our VIP guys doing this very thing.
It works just fine, but he pays for it like it is a completely new connection.

you can always use phone line or powerline networking and if your willing to install coax for your cable maybe you should just install some cat5e

EDIT: You can have them install a cable right in the middle and have bot computers use wireless connections as well.

I'm somewhat astounded that someone would pay for two broadband accounts to avoid running a wire! Hell, you can just pick up the phone and have someone come run the wire!

You'll spend far more over the course of a year with a duplicate broadband account. 😕

you'll get more bandwidth with two accounts, nearly twice the bandwidth.

What dmtunc doesn't want to pay for a whole extra account. Point is, it was once possible to pay only 10 bucks extra and he thought that maybe a small increase in monthly charges would be worth the convinience, I doubt he want to pay 30 bucks extra

yeah i dont want to have to pay for 2 accounts guys, i was just wondering if the option was available to have 2 modems rather than run the wire all the way there. thanks for the help

You don't actually get double bandwidth, at least not unless you spend a lot of money on the router. In addition, you will only be using one path for any given connection. Unless you have a lot of active machines using the connection(s), dual accounts make no sense at all.

I think its more like, you get the extra bandwidth, but you probably won't have it at your disposal. You know, like owning 2 TV's, you have twice the viewing capability, but you cant actually use it to its full potential unless you put them in the same room and get really good at multitasking,
