2 computers one monitor ?

i have a gaming computer and a old crappy computer i use to share files on my FTP server but i only have one monitor is there anyway i can switch back and forth without unplugging the computer into my monitor maybe some sort of adapter ?

 
Yes, you need something called a kvm. For your needs a basic 2 computer one with built in cables would work great for you.
 
Well one way to do this would be to make the 2nd computer a server built on Linux, that you could just telnet into. This is just a different way of thinking about doing things. A computer does not necessarily need a monitor and a mouse and a keyboard to function. This is just one idea.

You may give up some responsiveness using a KVM for gaming. I have never tried one myself. It would be neat if they made a wireless keyboard and mouse that could operate on 2 frequencies. That way you could have 2 receivers and just one keyboard and mouse. A KVM is worth a shot. You will either like it or not. I have seen them used at the office for servers, but I do not know how well they would work for a standard PC.
 
I use a KVM at work. Pretty good, haven't noticed any latency with the keyboard/mouse. It does take a while for the LCD monitor to adjust and fire up when I switch somewhere, and yes, that part of it is annoying, but not unbearable. As a really orthodox method of aquiring displays for crap computers, I just garage sale and grab one for $2 :laugh.
