2 computer network working now, but still needs tweaking

I recently built up a second computer, and decided to network them. I've got a linksys 10bt hub/linksys 10bt nics, and a cable modem hooked up. The two computers can share files, and do things using ipx/spx with no problems. They both also have a cable modem ip assigned to each. When I try to connect to the other computer with tcp/ip (tcpip games, icq file transfers, remote control applications) an initial connection is made, but no data gets sent. In icq one computer shows 10kb sent, but the other never gets it. They can both communicate fine with any other computer on the internet, but not each other. Has anyone else had ever had these problems?

EDIT: See my last post in this thread about what I've changed that fixed the problem. It still dosen't seem right, but it is a lot better than how it was.

Is your cable modem connected to your hub or your computer?
I am assuming you plug your modem and both computers directly
to the hub.

You might also want to add NetBeui, see if that helps.

Yeah the computers are connected to the hub, and the hub is connected to the cable modem on the uplink.

I had the same problems with netbeui. What I think is strange is that both computers can work fine communicating to any other server, just not to each other.

I had a very similar problems with my @home setup. I ended up using TCP/IP for the computers to access the internet and netbeui to share files between the two computers. Make sure to bind file and print sharing with netbeui and not TCP/IP.

The only thing bound to tcp/ip is the nic, file/print sharing is bound to ipx/spx (netbios over ipx/spx is enabled obviously)

the problem isn't with file/print sharing, but the problem is when i use tcp/ip based applications and try to connect to the other computer, nothing fully gets transfered

since your name is close to mine...ill see if i can help =)

i know you already said file and print sharing isnt the problem, but you might wanna double check that. i had the same prob, i went and disabled it then re-enabled it and it just worked. maybe it was lucky, but thats what happened. also, if you are running win2k...make sure when you hit "share" and there is a letter to share it as, ignore that. click "new share" at the bottom of the box and then make a name for it. why you have to do this you say? i have NO idea..but thats how it works =)

I seem to have found the problem. It looks like that a majority of my problem was with some of the tcp/ip speed tweaks. After I installed them on the other computer I was able to connect to my ftp. (192.168.0.1)

I transfered a file, (157 Kb/sec - 35631376 bytes)
Does this seem like a normal speed for a 10bt network?

One last question. Using sisoft sandra it has a network benchmark speed test. When I try it it comes up with a "Transfer packet too large for network/host"

Not sure what else I may need to modify for registry settings to get an optimal connection between the two computers but any advice would be appreciated.

MrDudeMan: The problem dosen't appear to be with f/p sharing at all. I removed all sharing from the other computer and tried to the same things with just tcp/ip, and had the same problems. But after applying a registry edit, it worked as I described above.
