2 comps 1 cable connection what do I need to set them both up....

you could get a 4 port hub or switch.. plug the cable modem into the hub- and then your 2 computers into the hub....
i think your cable company should let you do that.

yeah.. thats what i do at least.. and would recomend, except a hub will cost you 40 dollars that the most, while a router will be at least 100

True. But I thought that a hub will not parse the cable connection ... so I'd guess you'd need another IP. The router parses the connection back to the requesting comp, so only one IP is needed. Or have I got this wrong again?

With only two computers you might want to consider putting two NIC's in your main computer and use a cross over cable. Now this is good if you have Win98 SE or later so you can use IP connection sharing. Also if you decide later to use a HUB you can connect it to the second NIC and then connect several computers to the HUB again using IP connection sharing.

Well, I always say save $.

This is all you need:

A running old computer with 6 megs of RAM and a floppy drive.

FREESCO from FREESCO

2 NICS for your FREESCO Box
2 NICS for your computers

1 HUB.

If you go 10BaseT you can get all of this for around $80, not including the old PC.
