2.8C/E, 3.0C/E, 3.2C/E overclocking thread

I haven't seen many 3.2 procs overclocked yet. I'm trying to decide between these six processors and I will definitely be OCing. I just would like to see (as would everybody else, I'm sure) the headroom available in these cpus, especially on air cooling.

id suggest choosing your CPU to match your ram's potential speed.

XMS3200?
go for a cpu that can do at least 250fsb 5:4 ratio 400ddr @ cas222.
(2.8c on an Abit IC7 variant would be good)

I actually plan on getting the IC7-MAX3 mobo and eventually upgrading my 3200 mem to something more ocable. Like 4000 or 4400. So I'm not limiting myself to what my memory can handle at the moment. I just hear that the heat from the prescotts is horrible but that it's more overclockable than the Northwoods, which seems kind of strange. I'm just trying to find out once and for all the possibilities for these chips before i get one.
 
just FYI.....

we've been thru this many times already.
5:4 cas222 is just as fast as 1:1 cas333, etc.....

may as well stay with the 1gig XMS youve got already.

That new corsair xl pc-3200 runs at 2-2-2-5 at 200. But it also can overclock to 253 @ 2.5-3-3-6 which is alot better and that at 2.85 volts. Match that with a good 2.8e and you've got a nice rig.

Why screw around with a slower and inferior product if your wanting to spend that kind of money? For overclocking get yourself a A64 3200+ DTR slam it to 2.5 and it will shame the 3.2 choices even wildly overclocked on air.

The reason you don't see 3.2's OCed is they are the same as 2.8's OCed. Most wise people opt to spend half the money for the same performance potential. It's all in the stepping not what Intel decides to stamp on the chip and mark it up to.

In sum, for best Value get the 2.8C OC to 3.5. For best performance get a 2.0 3200+ OC to 2.5.
