3.2 shouldn't be too optimistic. According to Overclockers.com the average overclock for a 2.8C is 3392. And, if you are only going for 3.2, then you are talking about a 229 FSB, so why not get some PC3700 and run it at 1:1?
Also, if you don't already have the parts in hand, the 2.6Cs just took a big price drop. They are cheaper than the 2.4Cs and their average overclock is 3474. So, I would get one of those instead and try to run it at a 266 bus, and then either get some PC4200 RAM and run it at 1:1, or else get some PC3500 and run it at 5:4 (making sure not to get RAM with Winbond CH-5 chips).
the only pc3700 i can afford is buffalo, which in reviews i have read go u to ~223 mhz. the pc3200 overclocks to that high.
anyway, it is tough choice between the 2.8 and 2.6. the reason i'm leaning towards the 2.8 is cuz EVEN if it doesnt oc for $hit, it is still a fast chip that i can live with (not to say the 2.6 is slow or anything). also, there is only about a $40 difference between the two
forget the 2.8, get either a 2.6C or a 2.4C - both of them overclock like winners. The 2.4C will get you over 3 GHz, guaranteed and the 2.6C
should go over 3.2 no problem (definately well over 3 GHz).
Apparently someone here is using that PC3700 Buffalo with BH5 chips with
great results on either an IS7 or an IC7. All you need to do is back off the timings, but it really doesn't matter on the P4. You can use 2.5-3-3-7 and get much better bandwidth than the Athlon on Nforce2 as long as you dual-channel on the P4.
