2 6950 2gb or 1 GTX 580 1.5gb

Sorry if there is already posts about this (I did search for a while) but I was wondering what would be better two 6950 2GB in crossfire or 1 GTX 580 1.5GB? With the budget I have that is about all I can afford but if there is something much better out there I would be willing to spend a little but more. I would mainly be using this for gaming at 1900x1080 or 1900x1200 (not sure on resolution yet). Thanks for the help.
 
Even HD6870 in CF beats a single GTX580. Therefore, HD6950 2GB in Crossfire should significantly outperform a single GTX580. Personally, just grab one of the 6950 2GB cards. If you find that it's not fast enough, you can always purchase a 2nd one.
Also, you may be able to unlock them.

At that resolution, 2GB doesn't really help. GTX570 SLI may also be a good option. They have higher overclocking headroom than 6950s.
 
I'd find a pair of used GTX 460 768mb and sli them since all that matters on this forum is performance/dollar ratio.
God forbid you spend any extra on the single fastest gpu on the planet.

What game is going to need 2GB.. Even Crysis 2 doesnt get to that...

Most games will run great at 1080P with a single 2GB 6950. Just grab a 2nd if you find yourself playing games that are more intense.
 
Thanks so much for the help. I'll probably just get 2 because I want my computer to be pretty future proof since I don't want to have to upgrade it in the future.

What would getting the "single fastest gpu on the planet" accomplish when there's a faster dual gpu solution at the same price?

What ? 🙂 There is no such thing as future proofing. And its pointless with video cards. You are just depriving yourself the fun from upgrading, in January when the next generation of cards come out.
Do what Russian suggested, with 1 powerful video card.
It takes 15 minutes to swap out video cards, so no reason to 'future proof' the act of taking the side of your rig off 🙂
If you need to add a 2nd or upgrade its easy enough.
 
OP: The only way you can stop upgrading it in the future is if you stop gaming one day. I would agree with the advice to get one first and see. If you want more power, then order a second. That way you aren't wasting money you may not need to spend. If you don't need it now, it's far better to pick up 1 card now and spend the money for the second at a later date to upgrade this card.

agree with Russian, 2x6950 will be the better option IMO
