First and foremost, I'd like to thank Dave for this awesome chip.
Secondly, I'd like anyone who believes in some form of a deity to pray for Dave, and his family, and for his father. No specifics--just pray.
You don't have to. I did. Just suggesting you all do, as well.
Now, onto the reason you came to this thread.
I just got my X2 3800+ from Dave.
Currently running 2.6Ghz @ STOCK. And SPi1M stable (I'm going to find where it is no longer SPi 1M stable, then back down from there; then I'll start running prime)
Note, this is on STOCK cooling with the STOCK HSF and STOCK goop.
I won't be putting it under water 'till I get my mounting kit for my Maze4, so I'll have a few days to tinker with it. This was kind've an idea to experiment to see how this chip could do on air, how well it could do on water and an exotic thermal grease, and see if the watercooling setup/extra costs were justified.
So, a summary:
Current Stats Below!
Currently Priming @ 2.7 1.43v (Note: Just failed on Core0 after 5 minutes. Going to up to 1.45v Need to find my DMM to get exact volts)
CPU temp readings are 46C idle.
CPU temp readings are around 60C when under extended load.
(For reference, on my water setup I ran @ 29-31C idle; vs 44C idle here. So in IDLE temps, I'm getting an ~12C drop! Load on my water setup was 37C--here it's around 60C--23C!.)
I'm going to lay off for now until I get my water setup running. Someone @ XS said with 1.5v they managed to hit 2.85Ghz, on AIR [Same stepping]. I don't feel comfortable running 1.5v, especially with these temps.
I figure I might have a slight chance of 3Ghz if I pump ~1.525/1.5 into it with water.
Update again
I took the volage down to 'auto' (Which I believe defaults to 1.325 on my board, which undervolts a bit), a measurement gives me 1.31v
Not bad.
What stunned me was where the overclock went.
With those volts, I went to 2.5 no problem, primed for 2 hours.. just upped another 50Mhz. If it's still stable in the morning, I'll up it another 50. This'll be interesting to see where it peaks out as such a low voltage.
Side note, running Priority 9; so I'm assuming that it will be catching errors FASTER (hence going up to 2.55 after 2.5 hours @ 2.50)
