Why is everyone ordering from Outpost? Do they have the lowest price or do they guarantee a certain stepping?

It's a secret. ;)
Hint: 2.53 oem = SL6S2

What the voltage for the RAM? I wonder if the HyperX RAM can take on the high voltage?
Thanks.

DAMMIT!! My nice 2.53 is smoked!! :| After I sold off my 3.06 and 2.4 too.... I was just running @ 185MHz FSB as nice as can be and...... POOF!! A puff of smoke and that damn burnt component smell.

I switched over to my IT7.. no post. I took everything down to bare-bones. It is the processor. Oh well.. Crash and Burn is the name of this game sometimes.

I moved everything else over to my NF7-S for now. I have a couple of good T-Bred 1700+s to try out anyway. ;) Looks like I will have to order another 2.53 from outpost. I just hope that it OC's close to the same as my dead sweetheart... R.I.P..

EDIT:

My Kingston PC2700 Value RAM (Winbond BH-6) runs in the 460's @ 2.8v. 2-7-3-3 :)

Good thing Outpost.com has cheap overnight shipping!

;)

Sorry to hear about your loss!

Sorry to hear that Technonut. You should have good luck getting another multi-vid from outpost. I just ordered one overnight yesterday and it arrived today and it is a SL6S2. Funny thing was...I odered it for $199 and 20 minutes later I went back to the site and they bumped them up to $209. Obviously they know they have a hot chip on their hands.

Currently P95 torture tesing it at 3.1 w/ 1.525 vcore. Unfortunately my board won't go any lower on the volts :(

Temps are idle at 33c and load is 45 w/ a Thermalright SLK-900 and a 92mm Panaflo 2850rpm 56cfm fan.

Thanks everyone... :) It's OK, I may get a better 2.53 than before this time...

Anyway, I am still in the game:

ABIT NF7-S V1.2
1700+ T-Bred B (JIUHB 0310 UPMW) 1.85V
Alpha 8045 / TT Smart Fan 2
2 x 512MB Kingston PC2700 Value RAM @ 421MHz 2-2-2-7

2420.5MHz / 210.5MHz FSB ;) :D

Prime95 Stable 1 hour and counting... :)

2420 not bad... :)

i'm so close to the 2400 mark...

a few more hours @ 11.5 x 206.72 = 2377 and i'm moving it up to 12 x 200 again... last time prime failed after an hour... but i'm pretty sure it was a heat issue... temps in illinois dropped about 30 degrees in the last two days :) maybe that'll help my o/c a lil

btw... sorry to hear about your 2.53 :( that was an amazing o/c on air though...

PJ, The BH7 reports very high temps... With the MCX4000, Winbond HW Doctor was jumping between 55-68C under load. I should have installed my probe because I know it was not running that hot.

I am pretty sure that it was the BH7 that took a dump and took the 2.53 with it. After the smoke cleared, the fans would not spin up. On the IT7, the fans would spin up, then cut out along with a burnt smell from the CPU area even though the HSF was making good contact.

Sorry to hear about your chip. It was a fine one too at that.

Now I don't feel so bad running mine at 174fsb default vcore. 3.3ghz is plenty fast enough for me and my temps are lower by about 5 degrees, than having it at 177fsb with 1.6 vcore.

I hope your new chip is better than before, good luck!

1.696v @ idle...

What do you think killed it? I would be inclined to think the bent pins had something to do with it, but from the sound of it yours didn't have the bent pins. I had a 1.8A die on me strangely like that last summer. Would do 2.5 on default vcore, and the next day it refused to boot. Strange.

Good question.. The puff of smoke looked like it came from around the Northbridge, although it could have been from under the MCX4000. It happened pretty fast. There is still a burnt smell from the processor sitting out on my bench. I have a feeling that the BH7 caused it somehow though.
keychain? ;)
I was wanting to try a IHS on my P4M when I get it back from the AnandTech test lab anyway.. :) It needs one for the Prometeia to fit properly. ;)

EDIT: On a brighter note, this 1700 T-Bred @ 2420MHz is a sweet runner.. :)

The new 2.53 that I ordered from Outpost arrived this morning... BENT PINS.. :| (Another SL6S2 L too) I was lucky with the last one in that way, but there is no excuse for packing a processor with ONE small air bag and nothing else.
rolleye.gif
Not to mention the processor not being seated securely in the carrier.

This was beyond reasonable repair... I am talking hours to straighten out, if then. I started with a credit card and mechanical pencil with the lead removed to fit over some pins, but I could see that it would not happen without breaking one or more..

Oh well... Outpost did get a piece of my mind, and I managed to speak to someone in the shipping department of the Ohio warehouse that said he would pull boxes and prevent processors with bent pins from shipping.. We will see... :disgust: Maybe others will be spared this issue. I will know when my replacement arrives. (Should be sent overnight)

Sorry to rant... Hopefully I will have something to test tomorrow..

use a paper clip~

slide it between "rows" and pull up.
you can do it blind and it should get you most of the way there.

I agree with you whole heartedly!! If the bent pins were an isolated case I could be more forgiving, but nearly every person ordering from outpost is getting mangled CPU's. Sorry to hear that you got nabbed by this, but thanks for taking the time call in and voice a complaint.

Good luck with the new CPU,
CH2

If I had my digital camera here, You would see it is a lost cause. Many pins are bent flat all over the place. One that I slowly attempted to move started to loosen and would have broken. It is a mess... I will take my chances on the replacement since the warehouse manager said he would check the boxes.. Thanks for the tip anyway...
