I received a notice today about my order being out of stock and backordered. Since the rebate has to be submitted within 14 days of the purchase...not gonna risk it. Another Outpost letdown..bastages.

Mine shipped from Newegg today, scheduled for delivery on Wednesday.
Huh? Do you mean Outpost?

I haven't seen the enclosure yet, but some usb devices use two USB ports and 2 cables. One port powers the drive and the other is for the data. At least that's how I understand that it works. What exactly came with the enclosure?

Read the thread, get a clue.

I called 626-855-1868 on www.byteccusa.com asking why there is no DC 5v to USB cable in HD-201 or HD1-U2. They said that there was a misprint on the back of the box. They also said that the enclosure may NOT work for some harddrives because there is no DC 5v to USB cable. I insisted that they should mail me one anyway because it is their mistake for the misprint. But they blamed it to the manufactor in Taiwan for the misprint. They put their brand to the product and they should take all the blames!!!

Listen Everyone!!! Please call 626-855-1868 to complain. They may change their mind if there are enough people call and complain!!

Mine arrived today - for $5 this is very nice. The heat resistant/anti-vibration patch is fairly usless. It's just a little sticker to put on top of the hard drive. I wouldn't worry about it if you're missing one. Mine only included due dual-dongle USB cable and a smelly leather carrying case, but for $5 I aint' complaining.

FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T DONE THEIR REBATE:

1) YOU ONLY HAVE 14 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE TO GET IT POSTMARKED
2) YOU HAVE TO INCLUCE THE UPC CAND THE TWO PROOF-OF-PURCHASE STICKERS FROM THE BOX

Certainly hope that you get your rebate since you purchased from Newegg instead of Outpost. From the looks of the rebate, I think it's going to be one of those rebates where the company conveniently loses all of your information and you have to call and harrass them to send you the money for the rebate.

Does anyone know where I can get another one of those heat resistent pads that you put on the hard drive? I used the included pad on a hard drive that didn't fit and now I want to use another hard drive, but couldn't get the pad off of the old drive without destroying it.

I just called Bytecc and they are useless! They told me to call Outpost and ask them about the 5v to USB cable. What are they going to do about it? It's not that I need it because the dual USB (one to power the device) works, but it's the principle of it. If it says that it includes the 5v adapter, it should.

I'm just sick of this bullshit with these companies. I just got burned on a couple of cases from Ebuyer and I'm pissed off.

I got one of these from
www.pcmicrostore.com for $21 with shipping (no taxes), but after placing the order, I noticed that on the rebate form, one of the requirements is for 2 original "proof of purchase" labels. That's the second requirement of the 3rd step on the requirement list. I was just wondering if they meant the store receipt, and also what would happen if they only sent me one receipt....I'm confused.

If this works, it will be a good deal. $1.00 for a nice external enclosure.

Thanks for the info and a little bump since it's back in stock!

I just tried transferring 30 gb's of data and it took me about an hour. Is this about right for a USB 2.0 enclosure with a 4200 rpm laptop drive?

Sal

30GB is a lot of stuff, that sounds about right. If you were hooked with USB 1.1 you'd be talking about 30 days.
That's about 5 backed up dvd movies. I transferred them to test how long it took to transfer the files. Not nearly as fast as an IDE hard drive transfer, that's for sure. I was wondering if it had more to do with the fact that the hdd is a 4200 rpm laptop drive or because it was through USB 2.0 instead of Firewire or IDE.

USB 1.1 would've taken forever for sure. I remember using a USB 2.0 dvd burner and it took 1.5 hours to burn a dvd with USB 1.1. I went out the next day and bought a USB 2.0 card for that machine.

Is my case crushed is anyone else having difficutly fitting in their super old 2.5" drives? Also, is their a service that needs to be turned on to accept Mass storage USB (i'm running on Windows 2003)

oh pcconnection had it to my door in less than 3 days (i'm in iowa) for a $21 total (including shipping)

Thanks

It has to be a 9.5mm or shorter drive. I had originally tried an old 12.5mm tall drive in this enclosure and it didn't work.

How have you guys handled the rebate submission? I'm having problems understanding what they mean by "two original proof of purchase" labels.

What have you been submitting for this requirement? Also, it asks for the original product bar code label...I can't find one on the box. It has diagrams on the back and the hotdrive picture with the supported OS's on the front, but no bar code....help me please?

The retail package from Outpost.com where the deal originated had the upc label on the box as well as two "proof of purchase" labels sealing the retail box. Are you saying that you didn't receive a retail box with two labels that say "proof of purchase" on them?

That is exactly correct. I the enclosure from PC Microstore , who had it for 15 + 6 shipping. I got the item yesterday but like I said, it doesn't have the 2 proof of purchase and no bar code.

weird.

I ordered the drive from Newegg on 2/16 thanks to this post. It arrived Thurday. Here is the kicker. They sent me a 2.5 Hotdrive but I got the HD1-U2FW. I doubt my rebate will work. I did send it in though - worth a try. The box I received DID have both Proof of Purchase tabs so I sent them in too,

I RMAd my 20gb 4200 Toshiba drive - acting weird. Anyway this will be a nice enclosure. I figure the drive was given to me so even if I pay the $20+$5s/h for this enclosure it will still be an excellent deal.

Thanks for this post.
