I have the 5400 RPM 750 GB drive by WD and I love it. It is just as fast as a 7,200 RPM drive when transferring large amounts of data due to its platter density.

I'm the same boat as you. I figured that since I have 8 GB of RAM and rarely reboot, this will be sufficient. The superfetch and standby memory ideas in Windows 7 are great. With that said, I will be upgrading when large SSDs become affordable.

I could care less about boot times.

I believe you mean you could NOT care less.

The way I understand the hybrid logic, if you seldom reboot, files from stuff you use would go in the cache instead of boot files.

For me personally, I will wait for someone to come out with a 16 or 20Gb cache on a hybrid. I considered the Momentus for my laptop, but decided to wait.

From WD, the higher density came to 5400 RPM drives first so that they did indeed match the previous generation 7200 RPM models for awhile.
