Hi,

Currently I have a MSI 865PE Neo2-LS running a P4 2.4C w/ two 256 meg OCZ PC3200EL's in dual channel mode. This ram doesn't want to overclock very far and I'm thinking of buying some new ram to get it to go the distance to 3.0-3.2.

But before I buy it, I need to know if the board is holding me back, and I'll be waisting my money on the faster ram. (or if the choice of ram (outside of cost) is a bad choice with this board)

Thanks in advance

i don't see any reason that board should hold you back
I guess you basically have two options then:
upgrade the memory like you are saying or run a 5:4 ratio

i wish more memory would hit 250 to 275 with good timings
ohh well

if you do get some new memory i would suggest getting something with the hynix chips, most pc4400 use these chips now

personally i would try the 5:4 mem ratio first and see if you can live with it before dishing out a grip of money for more mem

good luck

Actually I have no confidece in that board but try this....2.4c's should only really be oc'd IMO with boards with proven track records of near 280fsb stability.

At 250fsb you have 3.0ghz...obviously 1:1 won't work...5:4 ratio should work but bump the vdimm up to 2.8v.....If it wont do it then dump that board......Heck try 3:2 also....if it wont do that with even cas 2.5 to cas 3 timings it is a sign how well the board will do....

At 275fsb a 5:4 ratio would be 220 for 440ddr and probably not likely....A 3:2 ratio would be 192 or 364ddr...

Like I said I have not read many good things about this board for ocing......

Jack that vdimm up to 2.8v and set vagp to 1.6v......
