2.4C @ 3.0 w/ Air Cooling feasible?

I am trying to decide between ordering a OEM 2.4C and overclocking it to 3.0 ghz or just getting a 3.0. Is it feasible to overclock to 3.0 with just air cooling, and if so, would it be stable for everyday use? I've read the hardOCP article, but I would like some first hand consumer experiences with this.

i figuire if you have the cash for the 3.0 why not just get it?

if you dont have the money for the 3.0, i'm sure it can OC to 3.0 easlily..

but dont take my word for it.

2.4C are all D1 stepping, most should do 3GHz very easily.

I'm runing a 2.4C at 3.3ghz right now, retail heatsink, abit IC7 motherboard. The CPU is about 55 C when its overclocked like that, no stability problems.

The money spent on a 3.0 is not worth it, even if you do have it, save it for a better graphics card in the future, it will be long before games need a 3.3 ghz CPU, but the video cards are being stressed by Splinter Cell now.

Is the temp on an overclocked 2.4C @ 3.0 the same as a stock 3.0?

Also, where is the real bottleneck in overclocking the Pentium 4 Cs? Is it memory, heat, or something else?

Go with the 2.4c odds are you will make 3,000.

Mine does it at 1.5V actual.

I have a 2.6c and its running at 3.2ghz with stock heatsink, stock Voltage and it idles at 34 degrees C. My room is pretty cool tho, around 20 C.

I'll put it this way, I have yet to see a 2.4C that COULDN'T make 3ghz on stock air.
