F2P has taken all skill out of gaming and made it all P2W. Makes gaming a whole lot less fun.

F2P did to games what reality TV did to TV.

Never played the game. I've purchased some full priced mobile games but never have purchased in-app stuff.
 
I played and enjoyed the original plants vs. zombies tower defense type game, and the original tower defense. Both free, or very cheap like $3 if anything. Then Popcap sold out to EA and PvZ 2 was a disaster.

Garden Warfare is also EA and it was one of the best of 2014. I play it religiously. Great underrated 3rd person shooter.

Next thing you know major game publishers will be making Candy Crush Clones and stop making Assassin's Call of Half-Life.

I thought Candy Crush was already a clone (rip-off) of a game that already exists but was not covered by enough IP to prevent King from stealing the concept?
 
I played Clash of Lords 2 (or as they call it Cash of Lords 2) until a few months ago. I had spent well over $1K over about 8 months or so. Even though I was in the Top 20 worldwide in terms of trophies (or whatever they called it), I finally came to realize I couldn't make any more dent from where I was without spending significant amounts more. It was at that time, I stopped cold turkey.

Now, most of you will probably laugh at me and call me stupid. Eh, whatever. I could afford it and I look at gaming as a hobby. Some people put thousands into their cars, some into watching ever movie on the face of this earth, I spend most of my hobby money on video games.
You likely make enough that $1000 didn't in any way break you, so at least you gambled responsibly. Still, I do find stories like these sad. CC and other P2W games are in no way worth $1000, and the purveyors of these games profit off of the weaknesses of others.

Spending $1000 on games is fine; spending $1000 for such a crappy game is what makes it sad.

Played the game, but never saw any reason to pay for anything. Not really that great of a game, but different strokes I guess.

The vast majority of people play for free, but that tiny percentage of people who do feel it's worth paying money for end up making them billions.

I think in the industry they are referred to as "whales", so hooked on beating the level they are on and needing that satisfaction they will spend continually. Hard to justify casual mobile games as a console/PC gamer...the experience just isn't the same. When I'm out and about it's usually for stuff that requires attention...if I have to wait for something I'll just read. Only app I've bought yet was Torque Pro.

Does not cost anything to try though, that's the thing. You just keep pumping apps and little games and hope for the best. It's basically a lottery that's free to play.

It's nice to have ideas in a bubble. The company chair already went through practical bankruptcy once (losing millions from a completed site sale) just as King Digital was getting started and it took them a decade to release their first mobile game. Not even getting into trademarking, copying and IPO issues, their history has been anything but rosy.

The trick is to make it simple, but keep people coming back. I've never played it, but my old tablet came with Montezuma, and I think it's probably similar. It had enjoyable sounds and graphics, and was easy to play for a couple minutes of idle time, but I could spend an hour on it also. You have to make people feel like they're accomplishing something, even though they're just pushing buttons like a monkey. I'd never pay money for that kind of thing, but I see the attraction.
 
Currently wasting a whole lot of time on Crusader's Quest. Spent a whole lot of company money (time) on it so far, but none of my own money.
