i have a 1.4 ghz centrino and it is FAST

i hear it's equivalent in speed to about a 2.2 ghz 4m processor...

centrino has a 1 meg L2 cache so yeah....

you also get longer battery life with the centrino (almost 4 hours+ as compared to 1.5-2 hours with the p4m)

I would not necessarily want a "Centrino" because the wireless aspect is not necessary for me, and Intel onboard graphics dont do it for me. But 1.4 m is nicer...

Yeah my friend just bought 3 laptops, returned 2. The last 2 he bought were compaq's and they were P4-M and centrino 1.4, respectively. He's keeping the centrino based laptop because it's significantly faster (according to him) than the P4-M laptop that is clocked at 2.4 GHz.

My intention with that statement was not to say that Intel onboard graphics are the only choice out there, because I am well aware of the various other mobile graphics solutions. My point was to emphasize on the fact that going with quote unquote Centrino moniker only means that I have purchased a product that fit the marketing scheme of "Centrino", being that I bought a product that had Onboard Intel Chipset, Onboard Intel Graphics, and Onboard Intel Wireless...Thereby making it possible for the company selling said product to brand it "Centrino". I like the 1.4m processor, I would just prefer to not go with the entire (or partial) Intel Marketing scheme... Don't get me wrong, I love Intel processors, just not their wireless or onboard graphics portions...

I think I remember seeing a benchmark at Dell's webpage that shows the 1.6 centrino being as fast as a 2.4ghz p4-m, and wingznut I think recently stated in a thread the new 1.8-2.0ghz gotham (something like that) will be like equivalent to a 3ghz processor...

Sounds like Intel doesn't need stupid misleading pr rating to sell chips!!!!
